Fred Clayton was born in 1958, in Birmingham, Alabama. At the Age of 11 he moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where he started studying music at the Elma Lewis School of Fine Arts. Later, he moved to Western Massachusetts where he met his inspirations; Archie Shepp, Marion Brown, Steve McCraven, and Avery Sharpe.

Experiences

  • Pioneer Vally, Western Massachusetts
    1981 - 1992

    During this time Fred Clayton led his own band throughout Pioneer Valley where he played everywhere from nightclubs to universities.

  • Paris, France
    1992-2005

    Fred booked his band and traveled throughout Europe and parts of Africa performing Jazz & Blues while living in Paris.  

  • Cape Cod, MA
    2005 - Present

    Settled on Cape Cod, MA where he runs a blues jam every Sunday night at O'Sheas Olde Inne. For the past 5 Years Fred has been organizing the Summer Concert Series at Aselton Park
